Spanish Feeding 3 Cone Drill

In this Spanish feeding three cone drill, players are able to practice different stances and different shots, in a fast-paced footwork orientated drill. The drill can accommodate  for both beginner and advanced players at the coaches discretion in terms of how fast things go.

  1. The coach will feed a ball out to the first cone, where the player will play a pre-defined shot and stance. For a right hander this might be an open-stance backhand, a closed-stance backhand or a backhand that they should step into and drive down the line.
  2. They then go around the first cone, moving backwards while always keeping their body facing forward.
  3. They will then go out and play a pre-defined forehand (if right handed) that is along the same stance/shot as the first shot.
  4. They then go around the cone and back towards where they started to complete the circuit again.

The coach should do this exercise with all the different stances and shots, i.e. open stance forehands and backhands, square stances cross-court, closed-stances etc. Variety is key. For advanced players this should be a fast-paced footwork orientated drill where the player creates their own pace.
