Pick the Right Ball

In this advanced tennis drill, two players will be rallying cross-court, playing first to 21 points. However if one player hits a short ball that lands in the service box cross-court than the opponent must hit an approach shot down the line and come into the net to play out the remainder of the point in a full-court fashion.

Therefore once the short-ball has been hit the player that hit the short-ball must be aware of this and move across to take the down-the-line approach. If no short-ball is hit during the rally, the point will just be played out cross-court until there is an error and a point is awarded to the other player.

What if somebody plays a short angle. I don’t think it will be a good idea to go to the net?

Hi Rohit, it’s purely specific on the time of the point, a player’s strengths, the flight of the ball and pace and spin on it. But it’s always great to practice in a training session 🙂
